TOPIC: Is the Matrix Real? - ext - Wake Up In Your Dreams

Is the Matrix Real? - ext - Wake Up In Your Dreams 1 year, 8 months ago #269

The following is an ext from Wake up in Your Dreams - Conscious Dreaming Manual by Dr Rory Mac Sweeney

At the most fundamental level of experience, we can observe our world in two dimensions. Yes I said two. The eyes can only perceive in two dimensions, the third dimension is implied and constructed as a consideration by the brain but we do not see in three dimensions. So one might speculate that if we could see in three dimensions, we could speculate a fourth. But what exactly is a fourth dimension of reality?
If we look at any point in space we can locate it by using three intersecting lines, each representing a dimension of reality. We may also track this along a time line which gives rise to the classic time space model that we use to observe our reality. However it is mathematically possible to calculate a number of other dimensions (up to ten) that we simply cannot perceive though they are mathematically plausible. We therefore have to consider that our experience is fundamentally lacking in qualification to determine our true reality.

This may seem on the surface be nothing more than mathematical hyperbole but this is not so. If we consider the deterministic behavior of events in our reality, it is possible to mathematically imply the effect of object A on object B at any given time and space, presuming we know certain values of each of the two objects. However when we look at events in the sub atomic or quantum world we see that this mathematic principle breaks down. The reason is that in the sub atomic world, it is not possible to give a single value for an event. . Particles to not exist in a defined position in time and space but as a wave of possible locations at any time. This is defined as the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle and I will allow you to explore this topic yourself as it is a rather elaborate discussion. But the fact remains, if one cannot give a clear definition of these events which make up the fabric of our reality, then we simply cannot define the true picture by our own deterministic observation.

One might speculate that the dream event follows a similar pattern of activity, not being fixed in space and time but frequently random in its discourse. Could there be a connection. Is this some kind of Quantum Reality?
If this is so then how van we access it if the two are fundamentally at odds with each other?
The answer may lie in what is known as Quantum Entanglement. Among the theories of quantum entanglement is the theory of Quantum Non Local Reality. This is a rather intriguing property of certain particles that are taken from the same source. When they are separated over impossibly long distances, it is actually possible to demonstrate a direct reciprocal value in their measurements. So even though both, as said previously are completely random possible measurements at the outset, it is possible to deduce the value of one exactly like a mirror image of the other at any time. So the two particles, though not physically connected are in effect eternal mirror images of each other when measured independently at two entirely different locations. This has been tested and proved.

It is now abundantly clear that events in the universe are communicating not through the time space physical model of our experience. A more sophisticated language is clearly being employed and the search is on. As a matter of fact the visible matter that we see around us only makes up a paltry 4% of the universe around us. The rest is made up of an invisible material known as Dark Matter and Dark Energy. This has been both mathematically implied to exist and can be observed by the bending of light from celestial bodies.

Can we therefore speculate that this holgraphic world we live in is just a part of a far more intrisically complex puzzle of consciousness. Perhaps this consciousness can access a mathematical matrix of possible realities that we have yet to unfold ......

I have considered with great effort where I should plant the seeds of my findings I am enthused by the martial arts community due to their heritage in the understanding of the fundamental view of the mind body and soul as being inherently linked.
my journey into the mind is not unfounded nor is it alone. This subject is about to become very topical as we are witnessing the advent of a revolution in conscious perception.

Check out trailer 3 for Inception on youtube (Chris "Dark Knight" Nolan's" big move) this is just a beginning....

Hi Doctor Rory,
Looking forward to reading about your theories in the next issue of MAI. I think you may need to explain them with a greater degree of simplicity though. Otherwise you run the risk of alienating your target audience before you've begun... From what Bob was telling me, I think you've figured out a way of teaching people how to control and use out of body experiences in a way that is potentially useful to martial artists. Is this correct?

Must be the scrapper in me, I like to start with a curve ball, set things off balance

You are right indeed and I need to reframe. As I will endeavour to explain in the article, martial artists are in my estimation among the most fertile thinkers in our known world. The heritage of the martial arts has always been firmly footed in both the physical and the spiritual world, carefully crafting the esoteric relationship towards a higher understanding of human concept

The martial artists are the pioneers of our current understanding of the intrinsic relationship between mind, body and soul that seems so taken for granted by science these days. But step back 100 years ago when this kind of thinking was considered foolish by Western science and the practice of mediation and the likes was resigned only to the the foolish.
Modern science is now eating it's humble words as it puts the pieces together, unfolding the world as more than some physical and finite object

Specifically I am intrigued by the concept of visualisation and its practice in martial arts. I first came across visualisation as a martial artist many years ago in the Tao of Jeet Kune Do as Bruce explored how the mind considers imagined and acted out events with the same integrity. One could literally practice martial arts in the mind to achieve an outcome in training that was somewhat akin to practising the actual technique.

I have been experimenting with induction methods to wake people up in their dreams and experience a reality as seen in The Matrix. I have fine tuned the method to a high degree and now can enter a state of fully simulated combat which like visualisation offers a virtual training ground where the boundaries of gravity and the likes do not exist.

This may sound a little far fetched but I have scientifically documented my methods and will be only too pleased to share them with my martial arts brothers in a hope to open your experiences to something radical and new.

I look forward to showing you my work

Hmm,
That sounds fascinating. I refer you to the scene between Donnie Yen and Jet Li in Hero where their entire fight scene takes place in their imaginations as they work through the variables and possible outcomes before Donnie Yen's character sacrifices himself for the greater good.
I still don't see how training in a virtual mental dojo, free from the constraints of gravity, would be advantageous when your physical body remains subject to its effects in a real life encounter, but I daresay all will become clear in the article. As a prolific lucid dreamer myself, I shall read it with a very open mind...

Re:Is the Matrix Real? - ext - Wake Up In Your Dreams 1 year, 8 months ago #276

Wow, a fellow dreamer, that is awesome!!
And the Jet Li scenario, no doubt I will look into...

On the practical side, I will endeavour to expand.
The process of visualisation as outlined by Bruce Lee is in effect to train the neural pathways of a particular technique. When one executes a technique physically or mentally, the effect on the neural pathways is the same. The mind observes the technique as being performed for real. The neural pathways are the physical hardwiring the mind employs to remember how to performa technique; the more we practice the technique, the more familiar the mental pathway becomes to us allowing us incresing ability to access the technique when needed. Bruce described it as like trying to find your way out of a forest; the first time is difficult, but increased perfromance makes it second nature.
The process of visualisation allows one to rehearse the technique without the need for physical engagement prior to executing it with the limitations of gravity which may hinder the techique and cause physical harm.
Chuck Norris, a friend of Bruce Lee was one of the first points fighters to employ this kind of technique and has said he saw many of his points being executed in his mind prior to scoring them in competition.

The lucid dream state allows another level of access to this model in that we may practice the method with aone or more "sparring partners". I talk specifically of the fellow dream occupants. They will engage you in full three dimensional action scenarios and push your thinking as well as your technique. The difference between visualising a technique and engaging it in the lucid dream state is that there is another intelligence at work in the dream. The dream characters can seem very self aware and present you with some rather puzzling questions, very much mimicing real life engagements.
The good news however is that no physical harm can come to you when engaged in conscious dream combat.

Furthermore one can speak to the dream warriors and ask them for advice. They will often offer full on discussions and dissect a number of issues with you including a deep knowledge of the martial arts. Crazy as this seems, there is a huge growing interest in this concept. Is the dream constructed only of our own imaginary occupants or is this too limited a crieria to apply to what can seem totally self aware and often quite provocative?

I'd be very curious to hear other conscious dreamers offer some experiences of this

I may be looking at this a little too simply, but as far as I am concerned in my studies of Martial Arts, I'm purely interested in how to deal with the tangible within the limits of physics and bio-mechanics.

I touch the desk in my study and I know how much force it would take to break the desk.

I would advise any and all Martial Artists reading this thread, not to be sucked into, what looks like in my opinion, pseudo-science, not unlike the NTKO tosh spouted by the likes of George Dillman.

Study your art/systems and pressure test them to the best of your abilities. Train for exhaustion training, and drill fine motor skills to override the more natural gross motor skills.

Be aware of your surroundings and enahnce your observational skills.

Anyone who has been in a violent situation will tell you that they have experienced feelings of time dilation, and/or out of body experiences.

This is a natural chemical reaction caused by the effects of adrenalin and raised testosterone; it's not some meta-physical experience as described above.

Following the posts above, in my professional opinion as a Karate teacher, and Self-Protection instructor, will detract and not enhance your Martial Art studies.

Now, I'm NOT making ANY appeals on authority here, but I would like to ask the original poster how he has pressure tested his methods to enhance someones fighting abilities due to his 'experiments'.

Until such time, any and all references to the opening post should be treated, at best as a hypothesis or theory, and at worst as pseudo-science.

PS. A lot of what you are describing is also based on the power of positive thinking. This is hardly anything new as athletes have been employing these methods since as far back as I can remember, and Martial Artists such as former World WAKO Champion, Kevin Brewerton (aptly nicknamed 'The Jedi') even wrote a book about it back in the 1980's.

Thanking you sincerley as true knowledge can only be gained form quetioning a topic.
I have competed at international level and have achieved European Gold as well as World Silver (WUMA), Irish Gold (WKA), European Gold (Kenpo Karate) as well as many more.
To achieve this, I spent many hours training in the gym and many more training my mind to react under pressure. The practice of visualisation has been employed by many competiton fighters including Chuck Norris who was taught the method by Bruce Lee (he talks about it in The Tao of Jeet Kune Do).

One cannot under estimate the function of the mind in martial arts training, to do so would seem somewaht limiting to one's prgress.
Geoff Thompson speaks a lot on the subject of mental rehearsal and no doubt would concur that if a virtaully self aware opponnent could be engaged in hypothetical scenarions then surely this would merit further exploration.

On the subject of pseudo science I may boldly refer to my title as DR. I am a martial artist but first and foremost a scientist and my work is hugely researched and being publised as we speak. I explore the concept as a biological tool, specifically employing the use of neuromodulation to enter the state. My science is well supported and I hope this post can be an invitation to further discussion on this as I will gladly expand any concepts.
My book "Wake up in Your Dreams" explores the scientific process in great detail
