Editorial as written by Bob Sykes at the time
As you can see from our cover, this month we are focusing our attention on the two most outstanding martial arts action stars to date. Firstly, the late Bruce Lee, a now legendary figure who throughout the seventies inspired many of today’s renowned champions and instructors to take up the arts. Secondly, Jean Claude Van Damme who, following his successful string of video hits, looks set to be responsible for invoking martial arts’ next generation of practitioners.
There are, of course, those who say that both Bruce Lee and Van Damme are only good in the movies, and go on to complain that all new students train only because they wish to be the next Jean Claude. That may be so, but the proof of the pudding is that in the wake of their success all martial arts schools have benefited.
By the way, it’s now four years since MAI first came to the fold, and although this is officially our fourth anniversary edition, I thought I’d hold off the celebrations until next month, which will mark the publication of our fiftieth issue. So place your order now and make sure that you don’t miss it.
